405 WOODWORK REPAIRS / REPLACEMENT

The woodwork in my 405 restoration project requires extensive repair and in most places complete replacement.  Having failed to find a suitable donor car (all prospective ones having the same problem), we are faced with making new sections. This will be done to the same specification as the original factory made ones, either solid or laminated, depending on location in the car.

Does anyone else need repair sections and be interested?  If so, please let me know as we are about to start producing laminated sheets. Knowing likely demand will help in deciding raw material purchasing.

No replies Chris? I hope you got some calls and/or PMs.
I think I may have mentioned privately that I purchased a 405 project minus engine and gearbox that had already had some bodywork done with a view to eliminate the wood as it is such a weakness (and a backward step from the 403 imo.

Im working with TI Developments in Westbury to try and finish the project by next March ready for a continental trip in May. They are currently making a bootlid from scratch for me. The car was originally a saloon but now has only 2 doors and no roof - a lot less wood per se. The bootlid was originally wooden framed and surrounded so a lot of fabrication needed but they are nearly there working to my idea of a frame based on the 401/3 ethos.
just to make life difficult I’m trying to operate the doors by 401/3 type buttons as well. Mike.

Hi Mike,

Good to hear from you.  I have had contact from some potentially interested parties but no-one has yet commissioned any wood work.  It would be good if it happens, to amortise the cost of the jig that has had to be built for my restoration to factory specification.

Your project is very interesting and I look forward to seeing it when finished -fingers crossed for March.

It's a lovely idea to incorporate the 401/403 push buttons - you are certainly not making things easy for yourself!

Kind regards,

Chris.
